How do you reckon it's supposed to be pronounced? I immediately read it as "spongin'" as in sponge - as in he's spongin' off his dad. But then I wondered if it might be spungen with a 'g' like get or go. But that's meaningless whereas spungen...

I read it like sponge - but with more of an 'u' (in put) than an 'i' for the e.
