Pirates 3

So, the kids and I went to see Pirates 3 last night...

...and came to the conclusion, while discussing it on the way home, that they should have let us write the story/script.  Or at least some fans.  We would have done a better job.  

Johnny Depp, of course, was devine.  And I found myself wanting them to hurry up and get to his character, so the first bit of the film was a bit boring.  And then we got a whole shipfull of him! His flirting with the goat had me thinking of Aberforth, and I think "Nobody move, I've dropped me brain" should be my new catchphrase as, so often of late, I have been feeling brainless.  ;~P

But... Norrington - WTF? The ending - WTF? Also, I loved the witchy woman in the last one (she was probably my favourite character), but did they have to make her a goddess? *disappointed sigh*

With Will being 'undead' so to speak, I guess this will mean he never ages, yes?  So who will he have to come back to after a few decades?  What a downer.  O.o  Romantic in that tragic sense, but not my cup of tea.

And another thing - didn't Elizabeth's father die cos he stabbed Davey Jones heart and had to give his own?  Or did I understand that all wrong? And if so, why didn't he become Captain over Jones?  *didn't really follow that part but really enjoyed the visuals*  :~) 

Also they ran the HP trailer before it, but it was the first trailer we saw a while ago - the really short one.  :~(  But it was nice seeing it on the big screen.  :~)

Yes, she is teh love of Davey Jones life - see, probably cos I didn't understand that in #2 is why I didn't like it in this one. And Will replaces Davey Jones as Captain. Which I thought really really sucked. Everyone else seemed to manage to come back to life - well, not everyone (Norrington!!), but most of the main players, certainly - I really thought he would too. :~(

Ah - yeah, that was one of the things I didn't really get in the second one either. Of course once Squid face showed up I was so busy going WTF that I probably missed a few things. *snerk*

So, I'm guessing Will and Elizabeth don't end up together then?

Everyone coming back to life?

I'm thinking I WILL skip this and watch Chocolat ... :D Johnny's pretty hot in that.

Will is whatever Davey Jones was (although without the barnacles). He is allowed one day on land every 10yrs. So he and Elizabeth get one day, and then he goes. After the credits you see their next day, 10yrs later. :~\

Oh, I ALWAYS stay for the credits. Usually just for the music, but also out of respect. Plus, I paid to see the film, so I will sit there and watch till the curtains close. Even if the lights are up and the cinema staff are in cleaning up. But I am anal like that. ;~P

I never really quite got what Davy Jones was. I was too distracted by the barnacles - they never really did explain that did they? Or ... huh ... am I thinking of someone else? Was Davy JOnes the squid man? Or was that another character? I just sat through that going 'why is he a squid man? Are we supposed to believe he's a squid man? No one even seems to ask how he got to be that way?' Cuz seriously? If I saw a squid man I'd be wondering what on earth happened ... LOL

They killed Norrington?! But I thought he was so much fun in 2. I thought he was one of the better aspects of 2! They didn't kill him at the beginning, though, did they? Did he at least get a little screen time?

I was flabberghasted how completely they dropped his storyline. Then it seemed they remembered him and thought 'uh oh - we better fix this!' and just killed him off!

Did he at least get to die a good death? You don't have to go into details...just tell me it was, well, maybe somewhat worthwhile...?

I have read that the script wasn't finished when they began filming. I suppose the probably really did forget about him until the actor walked by or something.

Well, he was 'redeemed' I guess, in that he died for the good guys. But, personally I thought it was a throwaway death. A real 'oh, crap! We better do something with him! Quick, kill him off!'

That's interesting to hear. I've heard of that happening on other movies. I don't know, maybe it's common, but I can't believe it could be good for the story.

Hmm...I'll be interested in seeing this.

From what I'm hearing, it doesn't sound like it was too terribly good for the story.
