to perm or not to perm, that is the question...

I was seriously considering buying a permanent account when they come up for offer in June. But if half my flist is leaving LJ, what would be the point?

Please let me know if you're planning to leave or stay to help me make up my mind?

I'm currently undecided.

I'm waiting to see if LJ takes action and brings back the sites that didn't deserve to be suspended.

Though I still may decide to leave. I'm just not comfortable remaining to an organization that listens to a group affiliated with hate groups.

I totally agree. But I also think that LJ didn't have much of an option in this case. Those folks pushed all the right ToS buttons to cause the most impact. Internet terrorism of a sort. I'm not afraid to admit that right-wing religious fascists scare the crap out of me.

I hear you. I'm hoping this dies down or they put off the offer for a while, because I wanted to get one as well and now I'm not so sure. I still WANT one, but I'm not spending 5 years worth of subscription to get something that won't last another six months, you know?

Well, I hate the thought of having to learn all new ways of posting etc. MySpace terrifies me! It's all noisey and flashy and leaves me flailing!

I'm staying for now, unless things don't improve. I'm very much in a holding pattern right now.

So far, I don't know any one who has actually left LJ. Lots of my flist have revisited an existing or opened a new Greatest Journal account so that they have somewhere to land if things blow up here.

I have had a permanent account for about 3 years now, and it's convenient not to have to make payments and to have lots of icons. But if I had it to do over again... If nothing else, it takes away the leverage of threatening to cancel my account if they continue to make poor censorship decisions.

I'm staying. I have too much invested in this journal to ditch it, but I do have a GJ that I made over a year ago for hosting art(It's pretty much completely empty), so if push comes to shove I'll upload all my art there if there is some sort of mass exodus.
I think all I'll be doing at the moment is adding back people who have friended me and then flock some of my adult art. But then again, I've been meaning to do that for almost a year now. (I'm lazy.)

I've been seriously thinking about flocking my adult art too. (but have been too lazy/busy ;~P)

Much like others before me, I'm waiting and seeing. I wanted a permanent account, too, but I don't want to give any money right now when I know for a FACT that rape/incest survivor LJs have been deleted. It's one thing to cut out actual pedophiles, quite another to take away the place their victims went for support. I have a GJ (heretofore used only in emergencies, such as LJ blackouts) but for now, I'd really rather stay unless they don't restore the journals that were deleted unfairly.

Well as you know I have GJ but I don't really like it all that much. I'm mostly just waiting things out to see what happens. The GJ has always just sort of been the back up plan.

I was thinking of getting a permanent account also, and my plans have not changed. I thought many more journals (compared to the thousands) had been removed based on the outcry I read about. But then I heard it was about 500 (still a lot) I was surprised. I do not think it would be fair to run away right now. Although - I don't really have much in my journal, so I have nothing to fear. And I don't think my happiness should depend hinge on what these radical right-wingers are trying to do...I am so tired of censorship, but I do think the illegal journals should have been eliminated.

Actually, now that I know more, I won't be upgrading to permanent. In fact, I may even downgrade. I'm still deciding.

I'm staying for now, but in all honesty, I don't want to be part of any community that supports or has a religious or conservative or racist or hateful agenda. The WFI has links back to sites with all those types of things, and if LJ comes out and says they support WFI, it'd be just weird and unsettling. :(

I did! *flails* I am so behind on everything! I will definitely look up some stuff for you. I have some aussie music CDs I could upload too, but my burner is not talking to my comp at the moment. (isn't it ALWAYS something??!) Hopefully that will be rectified this w/e.

Staying. If the majority of my flist moves to GJ, I'll probably open one of those and just read both.

I'm really hoping it'll die down though, before that happens.

Not leaving. Been around LJ for almost 7 years and there's too much history here (and too many things to archive if ever). I get kicked, otherwise I stay.
