People, what do you think Ravenclaw's relic (that might have been turned into a Horcrux) might be? I'm doing a picture of her and wanted to put her 'thing' in the pic. Like I did with Godric and his sword. We know Hufflepuff had a wee cup, and Slytherin had a locket...

[personal profile] shocolate, I know you had Ravenclaw's being a necklace in your most excellent story, but does anyone remember what those Arthurian things/items were that were being bandied about a while back? I've forgotten and want to save myself a bit of time looking for it. :~P  So if any of you can remember off the top of your head I'd be very grateful!!

As for the relic... wanna bet it's going to be either a book or a quill?

I heard some discussion along the lines of Tarot suits, which would make Ravenclaw's a wand- more specifically, the really old wand that got stolen from the display case in Ollivander's shop.

Oops, sorry, I meant to reply to the post in general, not anyone's specific comment.

Was that in the books? The bit about an old wand being stolen?

I really like this wand theory! :~)

"Shop's empty. No sign of a struggle. No one knows whether he left voluntarily or was kidnapped."

There was a wand in a display case in the window of Ollivander's shop, which many people think is Ravenclaw's. Ollivander and that fancy pants display wand must be somewhere. Either he knew it was Ravenclaw's and booked it before the Death Eaters could get it and him...or the Death Eaters did get it and him.

Whoa... those were exactly what I was going to suggest.

Hmmm, how about a mirror? I dunno why, it just came to mind. I guess I was thinking of other things that are metal trinkets... not sure why. LOL, that makes me think of bronzed baby booties! ROTFL!

I like the idea someone else had about a quill.

Or how about a small box? Like a music box?

From: [identity profile] shocolate.livejournal.com

lawks, mine was only a necklace because my daughter came up with the Ravenclaw's Horcrux bit - don't quote me on anything!

Hey - can we post the cover art, now????

Well, it's yours to post, so I don't see why not! Unless TQP girls didn't want it posted yet? But I think they just wanted it for the convention and that's over now so... :~)

The necklace worked really well in your fic, although I supect we'll only have one necklace-horcrux, which would be the locket. It could be a book perhaps - although, once again, we've already had the book horcrux in the diary. So, yeah, I'm a bit flummoxed on this one! And it didn't really occur to me that I didn't know what she should be holding until I needed to draw her holding...whatever it was! :~P

I'd given her a puzzle-box in my big Trio-fic-in-progress, but I'm, as of right now, abandoning that theory in favor of [livejournal.com profile] zorpisuttle's taro suits, which is magnificent.

I've always thought it was the tiara that was in the Room of Requirement when Harry hid the Prince's book.

Well my horcrux theory was sort of adapted into one of my Mute!Ron fics but here was the gist of it.

It was her brain.

Want more gist? Okay! *lol*

I thought that it was her brain that attacked Ron in the DoM and that, being the brain of a notoriously clever and powerful witch, the powers that be would have wanted to preserve it - hence the brains in the tank.

Anyway, my theory was that when the brain burned scars into Ron's arms it was transferring Voldemorts sould into him and making him the horcrux instead so Harry would have to face the possibility of killing Ron to defeat Voldemort.

Anyway, since the brain attack isn't happening in the OotP movie that must mean the scars don't come back into play in the final book so that's my theory ut the window.

Was a good one though eh?

I thought it would have made for an exciting climax but it seems the scars were just scars. *sigh*

I love them though, I still think they should put them on Ruperts arms just for me! *lol*

I really, REALLY expected those scars to be something important. One of the big disappointments of book 6. I still have a simmer of hope that they'll mean something in book 7, but it's a very small flame.

I was really looking forward to Half blood Prince because I wanted to know what complications were going to arise because of the scars and because of what Madame Pomfrey said about thoughts doing more damage than physical wounds and then I read the whole book waiting for the big brain scar event and all that happened was he made a passing reference to them in a comedy scene at the table.

I almost shook the book like it was an etch-a-sketch to clear all that stuff and find the REAL stuff I'd been looking forward to reading!

Ah but she made up for it by giving him the longest relationship of the thrio and then a big dramatic death scene that didn't end in his death o I could cope!

Oh I did get excited when I thought of it. Then the spoilers for the movie came out and it said there was no brain attack and I threw a tantrum about not seeing rupert acting crazy and then having scar make up on his arms and realised that my theory would never come to pass.

She better come up with something good otherwise I'm writing my own! *lol*

I think it's a wand.

This is because of the balancing Tarot symbology in the other three Founder icons we've seen; Slytherin, locket (coins or pentacles). Hufflepuff, cup. Gryffindor, sword. Ravenclaw should be wand.

From: [identity profile] clare-dragonfly.livejournal.com

That one makes the most sense to me--especially if you look at the less common tradition which associates the sword with fire and the wand with air. That makes all the elemental associations match up with both House and relic.

From: [identity profile] slytherin-face.livejournal.com

There's a theory I've heard about her relic being a tiara. As we all know, JK Rowling has a way of barely mentioning things that end up being important later (the locket making a seemingly unimportant appearance in OotP, for example) and I think this might be another instance. There is a tiara mentioned in HBP when Harry goes to the Room of Requirement to hide his Potions book and although it really could just be nothing, it could also be that the tiara was mentioned for a reason. Ravenclaw's relic, perhaps? I think the idea definitely has some merit.

From: [identity profile] poire-gourmande.livejournal.com

I may sound dumb, but
"the locket making a seemingly unimportant appearance in OotP" ?
When? I really don't remember...

From: [identity profile] slytherin-face.livejournal.com

Well, it isn't confirmed that it was ACTUALLY Slytherin's locket, but I am pretty sure and I know quite a few others who are convinced as well. In Chapter 6 of OotP when they are all cleaning up Grimmauld Place, they find quite a few old items in the drawing room. Most of it is just rubbish but one of the items they mention finding is "a heavy locket that no one could open." This could very well be Slytherin's locket that they came across. Now there are a number of ways it could have gotten there, each one as likely as the next but in the end, I think this is the Slytherin Horcrux!

From: [identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com

My pet theory is that that locket is indeed Slytherin's and the fact that the initials on the note in the fake are "R.A.B" just seems to confirm that. C'mon; who else do we know who got mentioned in passing--twice--as having those initials and being killed for betraying Voldemort?

Of course, I'm sure a frillion people have that theory...

According to the Tarot, Ravenclaw's Horcrux should be a stick, i.e. a wand. I reckon it was the wand on display on a purple cushion at Ollivander's (and thus why he disappeared.)

From: [identity profile] fernwithy.livejournal.com

The wand theory makes sense and would tie in with the Ollivander disappearance, though I personally think Ollivander left of his own free will. I think Tom would have hidden a Horcrux better than a wand that was sitting in a window, though.

I wonder if Florean Fortescue's disappearance has something to do with the Ravenclaw Horcrux--bothering to mention his knowledge of wizarding history must be for something. But taht doesn't help with an image, does it? Maybe he knew it was a wand, and Ollivander was recruited to help track it down.

From: [identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com

Dude. I wanna see the Ollivander/Fortescue team-up fic. NOW. That is made of awesome.

From: [identity profile] pelirroja-ljc.livejournal.com

I say it's a statue of Ravenclaw and it's in the Ravenclaw common room, so they'll need Luna to get them in to destroy it.

From: [identity profile] darlas-mom.livejournal.com

I like the wand theory, too. It makes sense, and also, Rowling's never been terribly specific about what happens to a wand when its owner dies.
