I know I've mentioned once before an incident of a kangaroo in our yard. And, living where we do (right on the boundry between suburbia and rural) doesn't help in our attempts to educate the rest of the world that Australian cities don't in fact have kangaroos and koalas roaming the streets. ;~P

My kids' Primary school used to have a lot of vacant land around it, so it was pretty common for the kids to see roos in the paddock beside their oval and playground. A lot of that land has been turned in to housing now, so the kangaroos had moved to areas without building going on. Or so we thought.

A couple of days ago, my youngest came home from school to tell me that the kangaroos had literally herded all the kids off the oval at lunch time. The smaller ones would circle while the big ones crossed back and forth through the middle until the oval was cleared of children, whereupon they settled down to graze!

I find myself awed at the kangaroos' skill at clearing the oval so they could graze on it, and desperately sad that the drought has forced them to do such a thing.
No kangaroos or children were harmed at all thank goodness.

On a completely different note, I want to give a BIG HUG and thankyou to [livejournal.com profile] hill_ for her lovely virtual gift this morning!
