WTF is going on in HP fandom? So many sites are doing this ? thing and saying 'something is coming.'

And the Leaky's forums just went down! *is deeply suspicious*

Should we be excited?

I'm pretty sure that's a red herring. So many sites are involved and the ? all link back to fellow HP sites. They're deliberately teasing us with riddles.

And the bigwigs over at the Leaky forums (before they went down) certainly didn't sound like they were upset or tearing their hair out like they would if they'd really been hacked.

I think you're right -- if you click on the link of the newspaper under Hedwig, you get flipped to a page that has "Something's Coming" with floating question marks... I wonder why hackers would bother, really, throwing question marks across different sites.

Aparently this started on Friday night (US time) and has been spreading through the various HP sites since.

Just checked the forums over at HPANA and there was some sort of riddle involved which they've worked out a time which falls due in about 20 mins. So I ain't going to bed yet! ;~P

Ok, the 20min time passed and this aparently is the timetable - (from the HPANA forums)

Posted May 16, 2005 10:37 AM ET

Okay...let me clear up what I think are the times. Seeing as how I started all this time mess.

5:00pm for Central time USA
6:00pm for Eastern time USA
4:00pm for Mountain time USA
3:00pm for Pacific time USA

11:00pm for UK
8:00am for Australia (Queensland area)

I am basing this on the time the post about the 16th hour was made which was 1:01am my time (Central USA) Which would make it 5pm

Which means, if I am correct, it should be a little under 7 and a half hours away...7 hours and 24 minutes to be exact.

So maybe we won't see anything till 8am...

Leaky just posted to say that we need to follow Peeves's trail -- but where? Where is Peeves? ARGH!

Follow the trail of rascal Peeves and you will find the answer

Maybe on JK's website is where we're meant to follow Peeves?

*head desk* I want July 16th, just so all these riddles will stop, they make my head ache.

I checked her site - the DND sign is still on the door and there certainly weren't any foreign ?s.

I SO need to go to bed!! *is too intregued and excited*

OOH! And once you're on that page, there's a hidden link under the words "something's coming" that take you to a second page, where the floating question marks occasionally turn into bubbles that say PP on them, and there's a thing that says "Where will you be?" with an image occasionally appearing under it - a blue wrapped bon-bon style lolly, I think, with a lightningbolt P on it.

THE PLOT THICKENS!

I'd say new HP merchandise -- Leaky says "Something's coming to your favourite store" :D

Some folks are suggesting that the 'PP' might stand for Paragraph Preview.

That would be exciting! :~)

:-o How mysterious! What are the other sites that have been "hacked?" What do the ??s etc. look like?

Absolutely out of context, but I thouhgt you might enjoy this link:

well - whatever it is, I'm hopeless at solving riddles so I will just have to wait - but I noticed that the icon for one of the news items on veritaserum.com is turning into a question mark now and then - coincidentally it is the one with the news abut the adult HBP version - was it always like this? I have no idea as I don't frequent this site... perhaps Jo will open the closed door again... or it was all about the news about Neville....

ADMIN: Security Issues and Peeves (And ??s :)

Morning all - it seems a group of grammatically-challenged, miscreant, script-kiddie Slytherins has been cruising the fandom overnight littering question marks and strange links across all the Harry Potter sites. We're doing an audit of our security measures and trying to track down the culprits.

Meanwhile, we've gotten so many questions about the rogue punctuation, including the posting of a massive Leaky Lounge topic, that we've created this entry for comments and questions.

Thanks for being patient and we'll keep you posted.

Script kitties at it again...nothing to get excited over, unless it IS a huge trick on us.

From: [identity profile] shortcircuited.livejournal.com

Wah! Or just kidding, I should read previous comments ahaha

But I still dont think its anything big, script-kitties are an annoying but normal occurence.
I personally am not letting myself expect anything out of this. If it is something, then I'm in for a good surprise.

This is stupid! I hate riddles. TLC said 'veil' as a hint though. If it's a paragraph preview, I dont want to read it. Hi Kate!

A server went down, so the "surprise" has been postponed until tomorrow. :D

awesome

I added you to my friends. I looked at your art, and I just want to say that it is BEAUTIFUL. And I love your icon? Did you make it yourself? I promise I won't gack it.

Re: awesome

This Weasley sibs icon? Yeah, I made it. :~)
Or did you mean my Harry one? I drew, animated and made that icon too.
