Some new art this morning, which was commissioned by [livejournal.com profile] fernwithy
It'a a scene from her brilliant story Lines of Descent .

If you haven't read this story yet, get yourself there now. This is quite seriously one of the best (and certainly most powerful) HP fanfics I have read.

This scene is from Chapter 3, where Remus and Elizabeth discuss the facts of lycanthropic life.

*sighs* Your art always makes me swoon. Such beautiful colors and the poses always look so natural and lovely. I especially like Remus's expression (his face, gah! <33) Fabulous art, as always.

I love the picture! Just love it. Remus's awkward, embarrassed expression is just right, as is Elizabeth's faintly amused one.

Warning: stupid question coming.

Kate, where do you get your faces from? Do you make them up completely or are they half based on people you know or see on the street. I'm such a verbal person that while I can totally understand someone inventing someone in words, I can't begin to imagine how you invent someone visually. Amazing.

Wonderful picture, by the way. Very Elizabeth! And the willow draping over the seat - :)

More Remus. Nice. :) Really great picture.

OMG. Your Remus looks SO much like I visualised him in my head when reading the books the first time!!!

Brilliant, love it. :) :)

Not a stupid question at all, Myf!
Sometimes I use actor references, sometimes I just pull them out of my head.
If and when I do use actor references, unless I'm trying to keep the likeness (say Harrison/Han for eg), I change little things like their nose, chin, whatever. It's usually enough.
I find too, that if I want the look of an actor, but not the absolute likeness, if I sketch them from memory rather than a photo reference it can turn out pretty well.
The Remus in this pic was loosely based on Ewan McGregor at Fern's request, and I'll admit he turned out looking pretty much like the book Remus I had always imagined.

The last pic I did - Godric Gryffindor, I was going to use Sean Connery, but the sketches I did using him didn't work, so I ended up just pulling him out of my head. Ironically, (and maybe not surprisingly) I realised after the fact that he looks a lot like my uncle! (who has a white beard, not a red one, and doesn't look quite as wild. Nor does he have plaits. But as I told him when I sent it to him - now we know what he'd look like if he did!! ;~D )

I'm really glad you liked Elizabeth too. :~)

*applause*

This is a beautiful and amazing picture for a beautiful and amazing story.

After Fern posted this in her LJ this morning, I went through your site, and oh wow, wow, wow, I am in awe. I particularly like the HP/SW and HP/SW/LOTR crossover pieces.

A beautiful piece of art for a most beautiful story. Thank you for inadvertantly introducing me to [livejournal.com profile] fernwithy. Her work is as amazing as yours. What a wonderful collaboration!

Thanks! :~D I was surprised how much he came out looking like the way I imagined him too. ;~) But I guess that was a good thing. :~D

Well, as yours is the most important opinion in this case, I'm very happy that I was able to illustrate the scene successfully. :~D

Whoa. Beaitiful.

I think I'll friend you now and watch for more, if it's all the same with you :-D

I'm from the Quill, by the way, and I was looking at your work. In one of the comments you linked a closeup or Ron's chin (I believe it was), but the link didn't work. I saw that it was a livejournal link and wanted to see if I could find it.

This is simply gorgeous. And I loved Godric, by the way. I've always imagined him blond, and I don't know why.
