An illustration for [livejournal.com profile] belovedranger's story Destination Unknown. This is the middle part of the triptych which starts with this painting and ends with this one.

This painting was done with Copic markers, pastels and gouache, and it is one of those 'wonderful' pieces that just doesn't reproduce. The colours in the scan look garish (pink!) and lighter in the shadow areas compared to the original, and completely foiled my attempts at colour-correction. *frustration!* Although I was trying to do it at midnight, so that probably didn't help...
Nevertheless, even if I spent all day on it, I'm sure it would never match the original anyway. So meh. That's the joy of owning original art; only you get to see it as it really is. ;~) Oh, and like the first in this series, there are details on Hermione's dress which the scanner just doesn't see. *glee*

a closeup -

And here's the 3 paintings put together. Top one is a photo of the paintings, and the bottom one is the scanned versions. You can really see the difference in the colours...

These are all amazing. I love the details with the leaves and the family tree in the first pic, especially.

Oh wow...

*dies from the stunningness of the three pieces together*

It is such a set... wow, just gorgeous!

I love the differences in colors - the group vs. intimacy vs. playfulness

You have captured so much. Thank you!

They are absolutely stunning! The coloring is so beautiful, and the embraces are so lovingly gentle. Just lovely!

Awesome. The 'stain-glass' trilogy!

Only thing is - why is there a waning moon in the middle one instead of a new moon? The new moon would be more symbolic of a new beginning...;)

Eeeep! It was supposed to be a new waxing moon! It is a new waxing moon! In AUSTRALIA. I did an AUSTRALIAN moon!! *headdesk* *feels like a complete idiot* That's the sort of thing I pull other folks up on all the time too. (getting the moon phases wrong in the North and South Hemispheres) Oh well... the crescent facing the otherway would have taken the viewer's eye out of the picture. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

*screams*

OMG, but that is one perfect kiss!

Look at their mouths.....

*sells my children so I can employ you full-time*

Their mouths are amazing.. and their noses... Wow!

I love the way they are so wrapped up in each other.

I always have a favourite part of a painting - often bizarre and insignificant parts. For example, my favourite part of that beach one is Ron's foot! Don't ask me why, it just is. :~P And in this painting it's Ron's nose. On the original, not so much on the scan. On the original it's... delicious. :~D ;~P

I actually showed this to my mother...She was as amazed as I was. Just wow...

These are absolutely gorgeous. I love all three of them.

Although I resent that Ron and Hermione appear to have a better sex life than I do. ;)

Wow, that's absolutely amazing. I think the one of the wedding with most of the family is still my favorite, but they're all just incredible.

They are all stunning and the attention to detail is amazing!

wow, when you put them all together it is such a powerful peace. I really love them, together, and this one by itself. All are intimate portraits, but different sorts of intimate. :) This one is sexy! >:D

OMg, you never cease to amaze me! I could care less what ship they are, I just want to stare at them all day... Absolutely gorgeous!!!

Now that...is a fucking kiss. Man. I think I'm going to need to spend some time alone now, LMFAO.

You really make me want to go take an art class.

Lovely paintings, all three. As a professional with Photoshop, I can tell you though that it is/would be very easy to use Photoshop to match the quality of the scans' color and the sharpness to the original paintings!

Maybe I need you to teach me how? ;~P I used to do colour-correction on the bench - back in the old dot-etching days! So I know what I want to correct and what colours need to be incresed/decreased (working in cmyk anyway); it's how to select certain areas that I have no idea how to do.

But, that said, there are paintings that just do not reproduce. Have you ever looked at a print of a Monet beside the original? Dead. Dead as a doornail.

From: [identity profile] alexajones22.livejournal.com

Oh definitely, there's no comparison to actually seeing a painting or any such work of art in person. In Photoshop, it's quite easy, I would just play with the Levels a bit (you can do color correction with them too) and bring up the dark and light, and that will make the scan pop a bit more, like how the picture is. And then maybe a teensy bit of unsharp mask should do it! You might not need to necessarily color correct only select portions unless you want to, but if you want me to teach you how I could do that as well.

All the pictures are absolutely lovely!! The beach one in particular; the sense of movement and playfulness is wonderful. And, as always, the details are great.

Hey fellow Australian belle. You are a wonderful artist. I love your Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny work so much. This's another masterpiece

From: [identity profile] anirishtwilight.livejournal.com

I LOVE your art.

You. Are. Amazing.

I'm going into my second year of college and I'm going to be an Illustration major this upcoming fall and I hope that through hard work and dedication I can some day have even half the talent you do. I always look forward to your new submissions and each time I see a new piece of yours, I learn something new about shading or media or composition or SOMETHING. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your art. :)

Not to mention, these three pieces are beautiful! (And, as a sidenote, some days I'd like to beat my scanner. Hahahaha.)
