Author Pimping #2
Fanfic Author Appreciation Week: You post a fave author for each day, March 6 through the 13. Tell why you picked them, give some links to their fic, say why you love them, their work, why they need more appreciation, and just wax poetic about your favorite authors for the entire week.
Interestingly, another Aussie! And also another author who does not have a LiveJournal. :~P
I happened across Suburban House Elf at the Sugarquill, and I think it may even have been The Snape Who (Almost) Stole Christmas that first drew me to her work. (I know it inspired my very first photoshop manip!)
Needless to say I went on and read her other work starting with Harry Potter and the Brotherhood of the Besotted. This story holds the place as one of my all-time-favourite HP fanfics. It is faithful to canon, the characters are spot on, and there were parts that had me laughing so hard I thought I would wet myself. (The image of 'besotted' Millicent Bulstrode launching herself across the teachers' table to get at Snape will be forever burned into my brain!)
Suburban House Elf has a way of writing brilliantly dry humour that will have me cackling without fail. Perfect for Snape I suppose, and it's hardly surprising that he is her favourite character. Plus she manages to throw in lots of Aussie in-jokes, which is always amusing. *glee* Her ballad - How I Vanquished the Werewolf of Wagga Wagga, by Gilderoy Lockhart was made doubly amusing (and I was deeply impressed) when we discovered that there actually is a town called 'Lockhart' near Wagga Wagga! (which is pronounced 'Wogga' btw ;~P)
Like Cindy, Suburban House Elf lives relatively close to me (ie: not on the other side of the planet!), and I was very fortunate to meet her recently. We had a lovely night with some fellow Quillers *waves to
myf* talking HP until the restaurant threw us out. :~D

You know, we talked HP for about 4 hours nonstop that night. *glee*
Also - I add my vote for the wonder that is Suburban House Elf. Everyone go and read her stuff! I have to say, The Boy In the Flowerbed is about my favourite of hers. A little gem.
