Surprising but happy news! My son's iPod did a Lazarus this morning! Rose from the dead with, what's even MORE amazing - all his music intact. We left it untouched for 24hrs to give it one final chance before contacting Apple and, whether it was the threat of going back to meet its Maker or what, I don't know, but it's working now. (touchwood!)

(tentative) YAY!

Can we say 3 out of 4?

That's how many iPods have up and died on us in this household now.

Yes, unbelievable as it may seem, my SON'S iPod has ceased to be. He went to bed with it working. Turned it off to sleep, got up the next morning and... iPod wouldn't turn on, won't react to being plugged into the comp or power... dead as a dodo.

He got it for xmas. A 20gig iPhoto. It didn't even make 3 months. And now we have to jump through Apple's ludicrous hoops to get a replacement. *sigh* We still haven't got the replacement for my replacement!! *headdesk*

I swear I'm starting to take this personally.

And now I'm wondering how long the iPod I'm currently using (the one I gave hubby for xmas) will last...

My SECOND iPod just died. This was a replacement for my first iPod, which also died. Seems these delightful devices have a lifespan of SIX MONTHS almost to the day. My first iPod was a xmas present from hubby last yr and had to be replaced in June. To say I am LIVID would be the understatement of the century.
I have no doubt I will get a replacement for it - it's still under it's original warrantee and hubby had the good sense to buy extra on top of that - BUT I was (I don't think unreasonably) expecting to use it on the 2.5hour drive I'll be doing 3 days from now! In fact I was planning to buy a car attachment for it tomorrow...
Even if I got a replacement iPod tomorrow (which I know I won't because they'll have to send it back to the factory to prove that it can't be revived before they'll give me a new one, and that will take at least 2 weeks) I wouldn't have time to reload everything I had on it.

I had sincerely hoped that the problems I had with my first iPod were just bad luck - that I was one of the small percentage of folks who were unlucky enough to get a dud. I even gave both hubby and my 14yo son iPods for xmas - both the 20g photo versions. Son was beyond delighted and has barely been seperated from it since xmas morning. Hubby now wants to return his (which is still in it's box) and get our money back.

Ha. God bless the internet. Just when it lulls you into a false sense of security that it is something you can rely on, it cuts you off, leaving you lost and flailing. Well, me anyway. :~P

And, pathetic nethead that I am, I have followed some of my flist and created an emergency backup . ;~P

And what did I achieve in those hours without LJ?? Well... I started washing down the walls in my kitchen! So YAY!

AND I think I have finally figured out how to load and work my ipod! (cos, you know, it never works like it does in the instructions or online tutorial *rolls eyes*) Go me! XD
