Soft shell often occurs when the eggs get TOO MANY views too soon. For a new egg, 200 views in the first 24 hours in your possession is PLENTY.
well, if you should ever like to get into it again, I'd be happy to give you some pointers. I have a whole scroll full of dragons after I started playing a mere 5 or 6 weeks ago, and personally, I don't even post my eggs in my lj. I have another place I put them that grows them up for me VERY reliably and with almost no fuss.
Should you ever try again I would suggest not using your lj but Daily Dragon Fix to get them clicks/views. It's got moderate traffic so the views don't skyrocket. Plus, it's really easy to use. :)
