The waxing crescent Moon, Venus, and Jupiter made a smiley face over my house last night! XD

Another smiley face will not grin over Australia until the early hours of July 21, 2036.
*hopes she is around to see it*

when I took my dog Belle for a walk last night I was looking at the moon wondering why those stars were so close *laughs*

The funny thing is - I didn't see it as a smiley face until fanboyhubby pointed it out to me! I was on my way to pick him up from the train when I saw it, and got all excited wondering what the 'other' planet was. (moon and venus happens all the time) And was thinking conjunctions and astrology LOLZ etc etc.

Soon as I got back home with fanboyhubby, I ran inside to get the camera and make the kids come out and look! :)

It was very cool to see - I just wish at the time I knew what I was looking at!

that is so cool. it is cloudy here today, so we can't see a thing. plus it snowed. i like it when the universe does cool things.

Wow, what a cool thing to see! Thanks for sharing!

so adorable. we didn't get any decent pics cos our proper camera is broken and my phone is crap at night. also there were trees in the way.

anyway. still it was fabulous. i'm so glad the kids remembered to look.

I saw it tonight. Here in the Northern Hemisphere. One of my flist told me about it. So I hurried out...and saw it almost right away.

That's funny, my friend and I were just commenting on how bright Venus and Jupiter were tonight, but of course they look a bit different here.

We could see it here in Virginia here as well, only it was a FROWN! The smile was upsidedown!! Bizarre.

That's cos the moon is upsidedown for you! ;~)

The moon waxes from left to right down here. For you it runs right to left.

Thank you for sharing. It's beautiful.

My daughter and I saw it up here in the Northern Hemisphere tonight as we were coming out of her piano lesson at twilight. There were no stars out yet, and it was really cool. Being so far north, though, our moon looked much more crescent-y and not so smiley-face-ish.

There's no moon or stars in sight here; fog EVERYWHERE.

I can't see anything because of all the fog here - but your video was awesome. Thanks for sharing! (I want to meet your family some day - you all seem like such fun!)

Seeing planets without a telescope? wtf! I wish I'd known!

From: [identity profile] anadandy.livejournal.com

Aww - I'm so glad you posted pictures! It was too overcast here for us to see it - though we could see how bright Jupiter and Venus were when the moon was new a few days earlier.

From: [identity profile] lnalvgd.livejournal.com

Thank you for sharing that!

It was talked about on my evening news to check it out, but as we had a cloudy day and it was overcast last night, I could not see it.

Again, thanks for sharing!

It was so much fun! I'm glad you enjoyed the pix too! XD

We saw it too, or at least everyone but Conal though it would have been an interesting birthday gift from the stars for him. LOL! (Strangely enough, on the date of his actual birth, there was a 7 planet line-up, I wonder what that would mean astrologically).

Elora and I saw it as we were leaving her gymnastics class, and Mark saw it when he came outside to collect Elora when I was dropping her off at home before a quick run to the store. By the time Conal went outdoors, it was clouding up and out of view from the house next door.

So, I am SO, SO, SO glad you posted photos and a film (though we would have had a frown here, a smile is so much better).

I knicked the pic from one of the posters in the day_on_earth comm. But a google search turned this up - http://www.stellarium.org/

Looks like a nifty bit of freewear! :~)

It seems ours turned into a frown last night! But it was too cloudy to see anything here anyway.

Happy Birthday to Conal!! 11 yes? Was there a Hogwarts letter? ;~)

From: [identity profile] luckycyberbunny.livejournal.com

WOW!! It is so bright!! The planet view that we get is very faint. They just look like slightly brighter stars... LIGHT POLLUTION NUOOOOO!!

It's very cute!! Thanks for sharing! :D

The same thing has been showing up here in the Northern Hemisphere. Wish my camera was better at taking pictures like that.

Also could have sworn that the other day I saw Mercury hanging out just above the horizon seconds after sunset. Or it could have been a jetliner...guess I will never know.
