The funny thing is - I didn't see it as a smiley face until fanboyhubby pointed it out to me! I was on my way to pick him up from the train when I saw it, and got all excited wondering what the 'other' planet was. (moon and venus happens all the time) And was thinking conjunctions and astrology LOLZ etc etc.
Soon as I got back home with fanboyhubby, I ran inside to get the camera and make the kids come out and look! :)
My daughter and I saw it up here in the Northern Hemisphere tonight as we were coming out of her piano lesson at twilight. There were no stars out yet, and it was really cool. Being so far north, though, our moon looked much more crescent-y and not so smiley-face-ish.
I can't see anything because of all the fog here - but your video was awesome. Thanks for sharing! (I want to meet your family some day - you all seem like such fun!)
Aww - I'm so glad you posted pictures! It was too overcast here for us to see it - though we could see how bright Jupiter and Venus were when the moon was new a few days earlier.
We saw it too, or at least everyone but Conal though it would have been an interesting birthday gift from the stars for him. LOL! (Strangely enough, on the date of his actual birth, there was a 7 planet line-up, I wonder what that would mean astrologically).
Elora and I saw it as we were leaving her gymnastics class, and Mark saw it when he came outside to collect Elora when I was dropping her off at home before a quick run to the store. By the time Conal went outdoors, it was clouding up and out of view from the house next door.
So, I am SO, SO, SO glad you posted photos and a film (though we would have had a frown here, a smile is so much better).
The same thing has been showing up here in the Northern Hemisphere. Wish my camera was better at taking pictures like that.
Also could have sworn that the other day I saw Mercury hanging out just above the horizon seconds after sunset. Or it could have been a jetliner...guess I will never know.

The moon waxes from left to right down here. For you it runs right to left.

It was talked about on my evening news to check it out, but as we had a cloudy day and it was overcast last night, I could not see it.
Again, thanks for sharing!
