Six dead in Kinglake: 'The whole town is gone'

*sobbing*

No, I haven't been able to contact my friend.  She breeds birds and moved to Kinglake just before Xmas.

Oh Kate. I've been thinking of you so much and haven't been able to get online. Have you heard any more about your friend? I hope she's okay and got out.

*hugs you tight* Want me to call you this weekend?

Hi guys, this is Steve (Mr Kate). We're well, much happier and safer than a lot of folk who have been living mere miles away, and Kate's absence owes to unfortunate timing but no peril .... she had her lap-band done yesterday. Home now, and sleeping. I'm sure she'll catch up with everybody in the next 24 hrs. She'll probably have mixed feeling about me posting here, but I only got in via Google... honest! I'm only even trying because of the circumstances and I know a lot of you have been concerned (thank you) and we're OK and that isn't likely to change but any positive vibes directed at our shell-shocked countrymen will be welcome.
Thanks !

And June the bird lady survived and has relocated with most of her stock, but she lost two parrots and three cats, and her house is gone.

Yes, glad the friend is ok, but so sad about her lost pets and home.

If anyone else is reading this and you want to help another friend of mine just gave me the website of the Red Cross who is raising funds to help those affected by the fires.

And speedy recovery, Kate! We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Thanks for the update Steve. I'm glad June is ok, though the loss of her house and some of her fur and feather babies is tragic.

Give Kate our best, keep safe and keep in touch. :-)

Thankyou for letting us know. The timing was worrying. I'm so glad June made it out and that most of her stock survived.
I was worried that the lack of news was because of the worst. Although it's tragic that she lost her home and some of her animals.

With all the stress I had forgotten that it was time for the surgery. I'm glad everything went okay and hope recovery goes quickly.
