I can't believe how sad this makes me. He was my favourite composer.

And Michael Kamen (who wrote a brilliant score for X-men) late last year. He was only 55. :~(
I wasn't aware Goldsmith was ill (cancer), and I guess 75 is a good innings, but god I will miss him!
The very first soundtrack I ever owned was a Goldsmith - Logan's Run. It's still one of my favourites. The Mummy, Medicine Man, even Mulan! He was the only composer (among my favourites) who you couldn't pick or recognise snippits of earlier compositions from score to score.
What an incredible gift he gave the world.
