Posted thissketch before HBP came out, with the promise that I'd do a poll on how I should render it. So what's your opinion? Let me know! :~) And a comment with the reason for your choice would be nice too. ;~D
It's just such a rich subject matter; it seems to want some kind of deep medium. So I picked oils, because I have a weird connection in my head between oil paints and depth. I have no idea why that should be so. ;)
Yes, oils give a painting wonderful depth and nothing can match them for richness of colour. They don't reproduce very well though, hence the general avoidance among illustrators for art that is being printed. But, I must admit, I rather fancy doing this one in oils.
I love the subject! I chose copics, because paints are a pain to use, and because it takes place at night, maybe watercolours werent right for colour. You are very skilled with copics and have such a HUGE collection ;) so i think you should use them before they (knock wood) dry up or anything. Also, then you can use the original to submit in the book for JKR. If the copics fail you, you always have photoshop as a backup.
I think Oils would be awesome. But then I usually prefer traditional art to CG art and still your way of CGing certainly has something going for it. Well, quite a lot, to be honest.
Just wanted to leave you a comment to say I've friended you - hope you're okay with that, otherwise just drop me a note - I just want to keep up with your art posts... You can check me out on my lj - I'm a fellow artist, though nowhere near as impressive as it's practically all just uncoloured lineart.
*waves* Hi! I just wanted to ask you whether it was okay to use an icon I've made with one of your delicious pictures? Here's the icon, so you can see. I'll wait for your answer to put it up (or not) on LJ.
I like that drawing so much I might just make several icons with it, just so you know. ♥
