Courtesy of Mugglenet - UPDATE: WB has also just confirmed the Australian release date: September 6th, 2007.

And then they have the gall to get upset when we go looking for pirate copies!

.....

are you serious.
Not. Happy. Jan.

A month and a half of hiding from spoilers?
Why don't they do it like the freaking book release? *shakes fists*

Why don't they do it like the freaking book release?

Because unless someone like JK or George Lucas demands it of them, they just won't.

A month and a half of hiding from spoilers? Yeah, good luck with that.

I assume it has to be dubbed back from Bulgarian to Australian....

But that's TWO MONTHS!!!

You know i'll do what I can to get it to you...

Considering the books in English had to be translated into American, anything is possible!

*hugs you* I swear, if there was any way I could afford to, I would fly to the UK to see it. (specially if I could go see it with you!) But I would have to bring the whole family and... yeah $$$$$!

I am just so SICK of Australia being shafted with release dates. Specially when I know it's possible for them to be released on the same day.
Hell Boy was out on DVD in the States before it reached cinemas here, can you believe it? Then all the moguls were jumping up and down cos Aussie fans were importing the bloody DVD.

FUCK THEM, I SAY. FUCK THEM.

Butting in here ... :D

Ya know, I never understood why they bothered with the translations. It actually kind of annoys me to be honest. I'd much rather read the originals (and ended up ordering them all online) and the little language differences here and there didn't trip me up at all.

Besides I think it's good for American kids to be exposed to British English - if they don't understand something they could certainly ask and then learn something about British culture and such.

It's just always bugged me that they did that.

But back to the subject I'm sorry you're going to get the movies so late - it's really not fair and seems a bad marketing move by WB.

*hugs*

For the life of me I cannot fathom why they 'translated' the books for America. Did you hear Melissa's interview with the Scholastic editor on the TLC podcast? They discuss his reasons in that, and I swear he made me so furious I wanted to throw my iPod across the room.
Melissa deserves a medal for not smacking him.

No, was this a recent podcast? To be honest I've only listened to a few - I've downloaded most of them and yet never get around to actually listening to any of them. (LOL - this goes for all of the podcasts I subscribe to, not just the HP ones.) I'm curious now to hear what he says.

What did he say? Or do I even want to know?

Ooo, it was a month or more ago. (time flies in our house so it could have been longer)

The one thing he said that I remember verbatim because I was so outraged was: 'These books were not meant to be educational.' (ergo - we didn't want to trouble young American minds with words and terms that might require them to THINK or QUERY.)

ARGH!!!

From: [identity profile] chickadilly.livejournal.com

Pardon the expression but what an asshole. Because, GOD FORBID kids learn anything. Even if they're not MEANT to be educational isn't it just a side benefit if kids DO learn something from them?

ext_40142: (EwanWho'sTheFuckwit?)

From: [identity profile] leelastarsky.livejournal.com

Well, that would be my feelings, yes. But obviously the US publishers do not feel that bonus learning is appropriate for US children. God forbid they realise there is more to the world than the USA! *sigh*

And ya know - I wish what you're saying wasn't true but I know that it is. :( And some people wonder why the rest of the world hates us. :(

Dude, that just sucks. It's not like they have to do language translations or anything. :(

If I find a bootleg it's totally yours and Liss' too!

Er, that made no sense. LOL I meant that I'd send one to you and one to Liss since you're both in Australia.

:D :D :D

Thank you! I believe that Hawkeye woulda been a Marauder. Er. I mean if he was a Wizard or if the Marauders were in the Korean War or ... er. You know what I mean. LOL

AUGH!!!! I HATE how they do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why the hell do we have to get the movie so much later?!?!? Stupid WB! I'm meant to be heading to Europe at about that point......guess my trip will be happening AFTER 7 September. I would LOVE to know the reasoning behind the delayed release here - idiots!
ext_40142: (Ron depressed)

From: [identity profile] leelastarsky.livejournal.com

The reasoning is doubtless due to the school hols starting here in mid Sept. and they want to release the film when they know it will get maximum patronage. (the real pisser is that term 3 here starts the week before it's released in the UK/US. If it had been released a week earlier, they might have pushed to get it here for those hols. Then again, knowing WB, probably not.)

From: [identity profile] puddleduck3.livejournal.com

WHAT!? Why? How fucking long does it take to ship it down here?! They managed it with the books so why does it take so long with the films? That's two months after the US and UK. Ridiculous! What the hell WB?! I mean...we'll all be spoiled and have seen a million pirate copies by then so they'll probably lose money. Dickheads.

ext_40142: (Ron depressed)

we'll all be spoiled and have seen a million pirate copies by then so they'll probably lose money.

Not enough.

And they couldn't give a flying fuck about whether we get 'spoiled' or not, they just want our money. *sigh*

Ouch. Just ouch.

*has idea*

*will report back on fesibility*

From: [identity profile] godrics-h.livejournal.com

No. Fucking. Way

Is it coming by donkey from the States? If you get a pirate copy Leela, Ill pay you for another copy. Suck on that WB, you get nuffin'.

From: [identity profile] lunadeath02.livejournal.com

WTH? That's not even remotely fair! Do they think those in Australia aren't important enough (or rich enough) to care about? (maybe it's the fucking oil thing and gas prices and what the hellfuck else. I'm blaming this all on Bush!)

From: [identity profile] lissannej.livejournal.com

I heard about it, too, and have done my own little WTF post. Man, that sucks a whole lot.

From: [identity profile] nappy-steph.livejournal.com

Oh, sweetie, I am sorry. That really sucks....I hate corporations like that who only care about making the most money possible. If I find any bootlegs, I will send it to you. ^__^

Hey, randomly looking through friends pages and stuff & just wanted to let you know that there is a petition about this here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/62442/petition.html

Don't know how much help it's going to do but hey, we can try I guess. Now excuse me while I go and be annoyed at stupid WB.

From: [identity profile] rosina-alcona.livejournal.com

This is really weird, because I remember distinctly when I lived in Australia for a year that I noticed you guys got loads of cinema releases at the same time as the USA, whereas the UK would have to wait another 6 months or so. Times have changed, obviously!

totally sucks though : (

From: [identity profile] madderbrad.livejournal.com

I'm really peeved about this. I've been in HP fandom for about 1.75 years now, and having a great time ... seems every day there's something new, something more creative, that someone has done out there. Half the fun of the movie is in participating in the on-line discussions and such afterwards.

With GoF I stayed away from the HP internet sites for the interval (was it under two weeks?) between the global release and the domestic unveiling. But no way am I going to keep off the HP side of the internet for 6+ weeks. Besides, even two weeks was too long; by the time I was able to hop on almost everyone had moved on to newer topics.

So, certainly, avast ye maties, there be pirates in these antipodean waters! I was going to suggest fans organising to watch pirate copies down here - I don't known any HP fans personally, only online - but that would be too risky, I guess.

I'll still be watching avidly for links to pirated copies, though, when the time comes. No bloody guilt whatsoever on this one.

From: [identity profile] midniterose.livejournal.com

I saw that and I am so upset. There's school hols in July so why not release it then? Stupid WB
