Looking at the finalists for this years Archibald.

Some of them are fabulous.  Some of them a godawful.   I really like the one of Heath Ledger.

The dude dressed as Hitler I just want to smack.  Oh, yes he has all these 'it could be any one of us' explanations, but he's really just doing it to get noticed (which has been hugely successful!), and all I can say is HOW DARE HE?!

Bizarrely, I think my favourite is the 'self portrait' of the Archibald!  Although I'm not sure it really qualifies.  :~P  How do you get 'the Archibald' to sign that you had at least 3 sittings with it?  *snort*

Oh, I like the Archibald as well - very nicely executed.

I'm working on class homework - "Paint a still life with nothing but white objects. The only colors should be the ones you find in the white surfaces".

I love David Stratton having a nap in the movies! lol.
Also the one of Red, and past Archibalds. The one of Heath is amazing.

I think my favourite now is Dr Joseph Brown by Hong Fu. I'd love to see that one close up. The details in his face and clothes and hair leave me drooling, and I'd love to know the meaning behind the background!

'Wendy after two cups of coffee' and 'Alison Mitchell' are both amazing, although 'the Archibald' is great as well!

Ah, thanks for linking that. I love portraits, they are my favourite form of painting. I guess I just like looking at people.

Guh, that Hitler-impersonater... *yawn*... as a German, this just makes me bored, in an angry sort of way. Dudes, get over it. Why don't you impersonate Stalin or Idi Amin for a change.

I do like the one of Heath Ledger! Kathryn Barton (?) 's one is nice too.

So, did you submit your portrait of JKR? I think she wrote a few well received books. ;)
Thanks for sharing this link to the Archibald awards.
