Daughter and I went to a bird show yesterday.  No intention of buying a bird of course!  We had a lovely look around at all the pretties, and I got to meet a few folk off Smiley's bird forum.  :~D

But this little darling was irresistible!  Full of personality and the prettiest blue I've seen in a Quaker parrot.  Handraised, so she's very friendly, and she has been DNA sexed, so we know for sure she's a girl.  And we got her for half the price we'd usually pay for a hand-reared Quaker.  So what if we have to live on soup for the week?!  Heh.

Now we just need to give her a NAME.  ;~P

She has the most gorgeous, growly sort of voice, and does this little chirrup that sounds for all the world like "Uh oh!"  XD

What a gorgeous little girl! Can't wait to see what you name her. That plumage is just unbelievable with the soft blues and greens she looks like a painting with beautifully blended colors. Congrats on the new pet!

Thanks! At the moment daughter is favouring 'Evie,' so hopefully we'll know soon!

She LOVES head rubs! XD

She does, doesn't she?! Perfect colour!

Aw what a cutie!
If I may make a quick suggestion-- a vet trip is probably in your best interest, and a full blood panel and fecal swab! Bird shows are wonderful, but also VERY good at passing disease around to the birds! (eep).

I totally agree! She's quarantined from the other birds (I'm being really strict about it this time!), and will definitely be seeing our avian vet asap.

Heh. Yes, they are my drug of choice, and my daughter is a terrible enabler! They ALWAYS make me smile and feel happy. And I know it will be utterly tragic when they die (many yrs from now!), but you can't have the joy without the sadness. I can still get teary thinking about my wee budgie, Merlin, and he's been dead for 22yrs! This little lady should be with us for at least 30yrs!

She's beautiful. I keep thinking I'd love to give keeping a bird a try, but since I live alone and I'm out at least 8-9 hours a day, it wouldn't work. ::sigh::

How about "Billy" as in Billy Holiday as in Lady Sings the Blues?

Oh, and I know somebody down the hallway from where I live has a bird because I can hear it once in a while.

I adore the sound of my birds. I know a lot of folks can't stand it, but I love the background chatter, singing and trilling.
We have a lot of wild birds around too; cockies and lorikeets are particularly loud!

There's nothing nicer than waking up to my birds, then hearing the contented grinding of beaks at night as they settle to sleep... :~D

8-9hrs is tough, and would be extremely hard on a bird. Something like a canary, or one of the less handleable types of bird might be ok, but parrots need a lot of interaction with you. I tend to think of them like 2yr olds - they really need to be supervised and played with.

Billy is nice, but daughter decided on Evie. ;~)

Oh, she's beautiful! I've never seen a bird with that coloring before.

We've seen blue Quaker parrots before, but they tend to be a duller almost denim blue. We've not seen one this colour before. She may well darken with age; who knows? ;~)

She is indeed a beautiful shade of blue. She looks like she's made of satin...she has that sheen.

I agree...she was worth eating soup for a week for. :)

aqua....she is such a beautiful colour, or maube airial, like the little mermaid. She is so pretty!

She was still Evie this morning, so I think it might be decided. ;~)

She's in quarantine at the moment, but is rather desperate to play with the others, yes. Will have to get to know her a bit better before I let her out with the others though, even after her quarantine. Don't want her attacking any of them!
