The local news stations have been very sympathetic - but then we know about fires. I think people who don't live in areas that are ... "used" (for lack of a better word) to wild fires might be less understanding. '

The hunt for blame is what has been pissing me off most about a lot of the media coverage. And that includes our OWN media. Not regarding the arsonists, but particularly when they have a go at the CFA etc for not 'being prepared'.

We were warned and prepared. We were all told to keep off the roads and stay inside that day. We knew it was going to be a fucking awful day... It was just a thousand times worse than anyone could have imagined.

Yeah, I think even if you hadn't been warned most people would know to take precautions - there are some days you do just know. (remembers 2007 only too well ... and gods, it was bad but nothing like what you guys have had ... )

Thanks for the link. I posted a reply to the journal offering my own support. As I said there, I've been amazed and humbled by the response of the government and people of Australia, and I've done my best to emulate them and have donated what I could. Sadly, having just moved to Melbourne a week before the bushfires, I couldn't donate very much.

Thanks for the link. Most of us outside of Australia have no idea what's going on. We heard it, but we don't have the capacity to understand the real situation. I'm so sorry. I've made my donation and will spread the link to friends. (non-lj)
